The innovative combination of Merino wool and polyamide yarns creates an avant-garde yarn,
powerful and resistant!
A concrete example of a combination of Research and Development and Technology.
Milan, December 14th, 2022 – D-house, on the occasion of Pitti Filati 92 – which will be held from 25 to 27 January 2023 – presents the new project in collaboration with three internationally recognized companies within the textile sector: The Woolmark Company, the global authority on Australian Merino wool, Südwolle Group, the global producer of worsted yarn in pure wool and wool blends for weaving, circular knitting, flat knitting and technical applications as well as Expotex S.r.l. a company specialized in the production and distribution of technical yarns.
The “Knitting the future: exploring new areas” project aims to study and experiment the application of the different technologies implemented by D-house, with particular focus to Thermoforming, on materials composed of wool and Grilon yarns.
The project involves the creation of two artifacts using the innovative “Icevict” yarn designed by Südwolle Group and composed of Merino wool and Grilon® polyamide provided by Expotex S.r.l. The “Icevict” yarn offers new ways for creating uncommon and new structures and 3D effects for garments and accessories. By that, it provides more possibilities for designers to create extraordinary forms by combining these two materials. For this project, both shape and durability have been as important as comfort and softness, features which are specific to Merino wool, a 100% natural, renewable, biodegradable and recyclable fibre. Thanks to its elasticity, Merino wool guarantees strength and durability in addition to being soft and gentle on the skin. Wool fibres are also thermoregulating and breathable: they can absorb large quantities of humidity and allow it to evaporate, enabling knitted garments to prevent and absorb odors.
The D-house exhibition area – located within the Fashion at Work section, on the Lower Floor of the Central Pavilion – presents the products created by two established designers – Vittorio Branchizio and Giulia Ber Tacchini.
Furthermore, this innovative project is presented digitally on the Südwebs Innovation Hub platform, where Südwolle Group promotes its innovations, collaborations, trends and technologies.
The project was coordinated by D-house urban laboratory, an innovative hub in the heart of Milan, part of the Abruzzo-based company DYLOAN Bond Factory leader in the technological innovation applied to semi-finished products, accessories and finished garments production; while the production of garments has been carried our by SMT luxury knitwear manufacturing company, for what concerns the 3D printing accessories the making was followed by ShapeMode competence center specialized in Digital Fabrication, Additive Manufacturing and DfAM (design for additive), all of these comapnies are part of the Pattern Group, the first Italian Luxury Design and Production Hub.
The partnership between The Woolmark Company, Südwolle Group and Expotex S.r.l. is a concrete example of synergistic collaboration in the textile sector which demonstrates D-house commitment in the field of innovation and to the application of responsible, creative and innovative technologies in the fashion sector.
CoatYarn’s TPU Evolution has once again hit the spot: textile innovator, Shima Seiki has joined forces with three Italian Merino wool yarn manufacturers to create the ‘Wool To Go Tailored Knit’ capsule collection that offers a new interpretation of tailoring using an innovative form of knitwear.
The Merino wool collection comprises three outfits that provide a modern and urban interpretation of the classic formal look using knitted fabrics, rather than traditionally used woven fabrics. The garments are a showcase of the latest knitting technology from Shima Seiki as well as Woolmark-certified Merino wool yarns.
